After a week of learning, great conversations, and more than a few memorable meals, #TeamWildalea has returned from AICPA Engage 2026. Beyond the sessions and keynote speakers, I’ve been reflecting on the conversations, ideas, and experiences that made this conference so meaningful. This year’s event left me energized about where our industry is headed, the growing role of AI, and the need to understand the broader economic forces shaping the decisions our clients make every day.
What was the most impactful session you attended, and why?
For me, the most impactful session is always the annual one-two punch of Ian Bremmer and Mark G. Peterson. These two heavy hitters explain the geopolitical view from two angles — the global (Bremmer) and the US (Peterson). Understanding what is on the horizon for the global economy puts us in a better position to support our clients. And that's really the goal.
I also attended “Mastering Firm KPIs that Matter” which challenged the idea that there is a one-size-fits-all approach to measuring success. One point that particularly resonated with me was that face-to-face meetings are a leading indicator of client retention which is a great reminder that strong relationships remain at the heart of long-term success.

What's one idea or trend from the conference that you think will shape our industry over the next few years?
AI, hands down. It was definitely the buzzword, but it's probably no surprise that accountants are wary – wary of security, wary of over reliance, wary of misinformation, wary of lack of knowledge, you name it. But I think back to the VisiCalc days of the early 80s and then Lotus 1-2-3 and finally Excel coming out as the dominant spreadsheet tool (I think I've dated myself here!). Back then, accountants were afraid that they would be obsolete. In a way, they were right, but not for the reasons that they thought – those who didn't find a way to embrace the new tools were left behind.
The shaping of the industry will be our ability to embrace AI as a tool, not a replacement, not something to fear, but a necessary workhorse in our practices.
What was your favorite moment with the Wildalea team this week?
I have the privilege to work with some of my favorite people. People I like and respect.
